woke up more excited than a kid on christmas morning. it was 3:30 a.m. on saturday, october 6, 2012. as we prepared ourselves for the day we chatted and laughed as if were any other morning. but, this was not any other morning. it was our wedding day.
he dressed in a dark suit, white button up, silvery grey tie, and black dress shoes. i slipped on a lace dress, silver bib necklace, new pearl earrings (his gift to me), and brown leather wedges. a little hairspray here and a bit of makeup there and we were off.
making the trek to some family land in east texas took a little over an hour and a half. it was filled with excitement, anticipation, and the songs on his ipod we had planned to use at our ceremony and reception next year.
after he'd proposed over spring break we began talks of our upcoming nuptials. agreeing on menu ideas, guest lists, and the overall feel of the event came easily. we knew what we wanted. we wanted a small, intimate celebration with our closest loved ones. but, as the months passed, the deposits paid, and the vendors interviewed we felt ourselves slipping away from what we initially wanted. it took a few discussions and internet searches for us to come to the conclusion of elopement. giving up the venue deposit was the only money we really lost. and we were happy with that.
the sunrise ceremony took less than five minutes. we brought cupcakes from society bakery here in dallas to eat after we were pronounced husband and wife. then our photographer spent another hour taking photos of us. these were the vows repeated:
with this ring,
i give you my heart.
i promise from this day
forward
you shall not walk alone,
may my heart be your shelter,
and my arms be your home.
it was a day I will always remember.
