via this is glamorousDear Marli,
Do you wake up in the morning and ask yourself, "What can I do JUST for ME today?" If you're like most of us, the answer is probably no. While different cultures ascribe different values to self-care, the general verdict is that spending too much time focusing on yourself is down-right selfish. But I'm here to tell you something different.
IT'S NOT.

IT'S NOT.
I know a woman who used her own retirement savings to put her children through college. Now she's in her mid-sixties with nothing left to fall back on. Another woman cooks wholesome meals for her husband; and when he works late she eats cold cereal in front of the TV. Let's face it, we're natural nurturers. We thrive off of community and caring for others. And we're good at it. We easily anticipate the needs of others and respond accordingly. This is a great thing; for the world would be a pretty miserable place without all of our care-taking!
However, when we give TOO MUCH to others and TOO LITTLE to ourselves, we eventually burn out and grow resentful. And what good does that do anyone? It's time to forge a new model for other women(especially for the younger ones).
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST.
The Dalai Lama can travel the world helping others because he begins each day with hours of prayer and meditation. Barack and Michelle Obama reveal that early morning exercise offers much-needed "me" time, keeping them sane, healthy, and "there" for others.

Nurture yourself... daily, seasonally, and yearly. Take bubble baths. Eat a big bowl of oatmeal. Get a pedicure. Take yourself out for a nice dinner. Have a morning ritual to turn inwards, have a 1-2day at-home retreat each season, and go on retreat once a year. Find ways to nurture YOU. Then you'll have so much more to give others.
To your happiness,
Sara
P.S. the morning ritual part is something i've been trying for about a week now. it's hard to get up way earlier than i need to, but when it actually happens and i get some yoga, journal writing, reading, or simple "me" time in before work my day seems to go better. aiming for it tomorrow @ 5 A.M. i'll let you know how it goes.
how do you take care of yourself?

YES! This is something i have also been trying to do. I want to wake up and do some yoga or attempt at meditating because i'm a total stresscase about life in general!
good luck on your morning ritual and tell me how it goes!

WOW - very powerful message, like good medicine for the soul. I needed to hear that! I have to pull the trigger and get started on this. I am getting resentful - very scary!
