the myth of you & me

just finished a superb book by leah stewart
some of my favorite lines follow...

"When you drive across the country instead of flying you really know how far you've gone. You feel the miles roll away beneath you, and as each one disappears, propelling you that much farther from where you started, it's easy to believe you've left behind not just a place but everything you felt there, even grief."

"A day seemed incomplete without that kiss to signal it's end."

"A person is not suitcase, with a finite number of items to unpack. A person is a world. Look at any photograph - of a stranger, your father, your very best friend. Sometimes the mystery is all you can see."

"Nothing is stranger than the familiar becoming unfamiliar."

"... it was the moment I really wanted to hold on to. I could have lived in it for a long time."

"The first time you fall in love, it's like you've created the first love in the universe, and the first time someone you love dies, you grieve the universe's first death. What does it help to be told that what you feel is nothing new?"

"My eyes had filled with tears - I hated that, how close my grief was to the surface, how easily my throat closed - and I tilted my head back so the tears wouldn't fall."

"I had made plans with such methodical confidence that even I had failed to notice the depth of my uncertainty."

"... all you know of a life are the places it touches your own."

"'You're not a realist,' she says 'You're a dreamer who doesn't believe in the dream.'"

"There is nothing lonelier than being angry at someone who's indifferent to your anger."

"... to go on loving someone means to over and over allow the necessary pain."
